Foreclosure, but they won't tell me what I owe

What is the name of your state? California

I have a conman foreclosing on a piece of property he sold me but, I heard nothing from him, prior to him and his attorney filing a judical forclosure. He's attempting to bankrupt me to get this property back. The note clearly states that he must give me notice per CC 2966, but he claims that the note stating that the 2966 default notice applies, is a mistake since it is a vacant parcel, so it does't apply. But it says so right on the face of it.
They admit ,even they don't know how much I owe, but they are estimating about $15-20,000 on a parcel worth much more. Don't they have to give me a default notice or even make a claim ? Especially if the note says so?

Thank you for any advise you may offerWhat is the name of your state?
