House in one name ... two parties paying mortgage

My state is GEORGIA.

Hear is my question … my girlfriend and I currently live together. She has qualified for and is currently in the process of buying a house. Thanks to my ex-wife, my credit is currently trashed and I do not in anyway qualify to buy a house. My girlfriend will be buying the house completely on her own. We do not plan to get married.

I have not approached the subject with her as of yet, but I did want to get opinions … but, since I will be responsible for paying (to her) half of the mortgage payments, can I get any kind of contract agreement that would entitle me to half(?) the house in case something was to happen that would end our relationship. Also, would this not also protect her in case I ended the relationship, she would have recourse against me.

Or … will I just be a “renter” and my girlfriend will be my “landlord?”

Any opinions and advice would be greatly appreciated!
