Question

Judgement Lien & FHA Forclosure from Previous Owner

What is the name of your state? Kentucky

While doing a title search, my attorney at the time sent me a letter stating that there is a Judgment Lien (2 owners prior to me) recorded in 1989 on my home that I bought in 1999. There was no release of this lien found. In 1992, the FHA foreclosed on the property and a local business was also made a party to assert any claim on my home. While the U.S District Court records show that the local business was served a summons in 1992, I couldn't locate the local business (w/ phonebook or google). It must have closed. The summons also served to the original owner of my home was returned unexecuted (moved-no forwarding address). Service was never made. The principle on the debt to the local business was $810, and the interest was $972 on October 1999. I have a copy of the Release of Real Estate Mortgage from the person that I bought my home from (I think that he bought it at an auction in 1992).

My question is how do I take care of this mess and get a clear title? I would like to try to "fix" this as much as I can myself in order to save on a hefty legal bill. Also, is there a Statute of Limitations on the FHA and local business's lien?

--Thanks in advance!
