Exclamation

judgment lien??

What is the name of your state?Wisconsin. Not sure if I can even do this but... My daughter owns real property with her husband in Wisconsin. She and her husband owe me a substantial amount of money and they recently put their property on the market. The amount owed to me is about $3,000.00 and I am wondering if putting a lien on there property is one way to be assured of repayment. This forum is not the place to discuss family issues but let's just say that repayment is not looking to likely unless it's forced upon them. Any advice would be helpfull.

**A: you need to sue first then win a judgement. Only then can you file a lien on the property.

You could ask them to sign a promissory note. This way you would at least have a leg to stand on if (when) you go to court over the money.

Make it a common sense document with easy payment schedules, and have it prepared with the assistance of a lawyer and signed in the presence of a notary.
