Lawyers suing for hoa fees

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? SAN ANTONIO, TX

Financial problems forced me to fall behind on the yearly HOA fees.. I am now being sued by Lawyers even thought that HOA Assoct does not exist any more. The had accepted parcial payments from me but suddenly the retuurned my last chk un presented and with a letter talking about thousands derived for 1 or 2 years of falling behind. Each year is 250.00 totAl HOA fee.
They want something like 2000.00 to settel. I just got WELLS FARGO MORTGAGE to accept my situation thru there RE FIANACING program. This was after almos 4 months of going back and forth. I went from a high 5 figure salary to under 30k per year and a chronic disability.

Please advise if there is any law that would protect me .....
