Miscalculated Taxes

What is the name of your state? TX

In 1999, My husband and I signed a contract with a major Dallas area home builder to purchase a lot and have a home built. We closed on the property upon the completion of our home in November of 1999. Our original mortgage company later sold our loan. In 2004, we were notified by our current mortgage company that our taxes had mistakenly been figured on the unimproved lot and that our escrow account was seriously in arrears. Our house payment has now tripled and, as a result, we have placed our home up for sale and face foreclosure. Who was originally responsible for making sure that the taxes were reported correctly at closing...the mortgage company, the title company, us? We realize that we are guilty of trusting other individuals and of simply signing papers and placing statements in a file without diligently keeping track of the details. However, do we have any recourse?
