My foreclosure is taking forever, any advice?

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Illinois

Reader's Digest version of my story: I was living in Illinois. Lost my lucrative job and in a matter of months was out of money. I fixed up my home and listed it for sale. Housing market crashed and I had no takers.

In the meantime, I had moved in with a relative in Wisconsin. Paying rent to her, as well as the mortgage on my old place in IL put me in severe debt, and after about 6 months of struggling, I declared bankruptcy.

My bankruptcy went through in June of 2008. My house was listed as an asset I was willing to lose in the bankruptcy. I made the last mortgage payment in January of 2008. I was threatened/harassed for months by the lender, even after I gave them my case#. I received a letter in April of 2008 that the lender would begin foreclosure proceedings.

In that time, my lender changed legal counsel 3 times. My lawyers were frustrated as hell because they couldn't get anywhere. At this point my WI lawyers can't help me with my IL foreclosure, so they advised me to sign a Deed in Lieu of Foreclosure.

My former lender served me with foreclosure papers on 10/09/08. I was given 30 days to respond. On 11/1/08 (one week before the 30 days), they sold my loan to another company. I contacted the law firm that is handling the foreclosure, and advised them I was willing to sign a deed in lieu of foreclosure or whatever it took to get the property off my hands. I am paying thousands a year to insure, keep the lights and heat on, etc, so I want to get rid of it.

Today (1/26/09) I called the attorneys and they told me that my judgement date is set for 2/10/09 and that from that point it will be another several months until the house is no longer mine.

WHAT THE HELL CAN I DO? I can't afford to keep paying for the house. It's in another state, and I can't keep tabs on it. I am stressed all the time that it could be vandalized, as it's obvious it's vacant. I am at my wit's end, and I don't know what to do.

Please please, any advice is welcome. I need help!
