Paying for a co-signer

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Texas

I am wondering if it is legal to pay someone to co-sign on a mortgage with me? I don't want to ask my parents or father-in-law and my wife's credit isn't good. My credit is average but we are self employed, and banks hate that. I was going to post an ad in craigslist that I am willing to pay $1,000 to any stranger willing to co-sign. I would also ask them to sign a clause sasying that they have no ownership rights in the property. Please Help me!!!

A: Yes.

(A person would be foolish to do this for $10K, much less $1K.)

I agree with SJ, legal, but foolish on the part of the co-signer. I think it is unlikely you will find a person with good enough credit to co-sign who will do it for you for money.
