Problem With House

What is the name of your state?PA
WE HAD BOUGHT A HOUSE IN NOV. 6 OF 2004, AND EVERYTHING SEEMED TO BE GREAT, UNTIL RECENTLY MY DAUGHTER COULDN'T SLEEP AT NIGHT, FOR SOME ODD REASON, SHE WOULD SCREAM HER LuNGS OUT EVERY NIGHT BEFORE GOING TO SLEEP... LAST WEEK I DECIDED TO GO INTO HER CLOSET TO GET OUT HER CLOSE BECAUSE WE WERE LEAVING SOMEWHERE, AND I HAPPENED TO SEE A LIGHT UP IN THE ATTIC, WHICH I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS ONLY A HOLE FOR ACCESS UP THERE. I HAD NO IDEA WHAT WAS GOING TO HAPPEN NEXT! I HAD CALLED MY DAD, HE CAME OVER SO HIM AND MY HUSBAND COULD CHECK IT OUT, AND WHEN MY DAD LIFTED UP THE PANEL, IT WAS A FULL ATTIC, AND IT WAS CONNECTED TO THE NEXT DOOR HOUSE, THERE IS NO WALL COVERING, OUR HOUSE TO THE NEXT DOORS HOUSE. WE NEVER NEW THAT WE HAD AN ATTIC THAT YOU COULD ACTUALLY WALK IN, WE WERE ONLY TOLD THAT THEY HAD TO MAKE A WHOLE FOR ACCESS, WHEN WE WERE BUYING THE HOUSE. WE DON'T KNOW HOW MANY TIMES WHEN WE WEREN'T HOME, THAT THE NEXT DOOR PEOPLE DECIDED TO COME INTO OUR HOUSE, BECAUSE YOU COULD LITERALLY WALK TO THE NEXT HOUSE AND GO INTO THE HOUSE. IS THERE ANYTHING THAT WE COULD DO?

You have not explained why you can't just board that up. As far as whether anyone should have told you anything, well, if you are buying a house, it's a big purchase, and you should look at everything, not once, or twice, but many times. In most states the realtors have "Seller Disclosure Statement" which is to reveal the condition of the house. You were supposed to receive one of these when you signed the papers on the house. Otherwise ask the realtor. Look at the Seller's Disclosure Statement and see if this condition is mentioned (although I'm not sure there is a category for "secret passageway"!). If they didn't reveal it, and you could not have known about it from a reasonable inspection, then you can file suit against them IF if is going to cost a lot to board it up. However, you may be stuck because it sounds like you did not do much inspection. Personally, I would never buy a house without looking in the attic--how would you check to see if there had been roof leaks?

The reason that we had not checked in the attic was b/c we were told by the inspector that they only made a hole for access, we expected that it would only be a crawl space, and not a full attic. in the disclossure i did look at all my papers and nothing was mentioned. now checking for leaks the roof its totally brand new, b/c this house was burned before, which also wasn't told to us, b/c when my dad went up in the attic he could tell. also in the inspection papers, we were told that they had put a new roof 5 years ago. also the next door has a furnice in the attic, which i'm not too sure that should be up there.. Now the attic does not need boarding up, it need a wall blocking, there is literally no wall covering us from them. And if we were told about having a full attic being shared with the next door, then we would have never bought the house b/c we have children to worry about, and our safety! And we did look at our house about 3 times before we bought it.

Exclamation

Well to anyone who didn't like that I put it in caps, don't read my information then...
This is a semi-detached home. Children do sense things, and for me she was sensing that something was wrong. She may have had her closet door open one night and seen the light, and that was bothering her..? I don't know! All i know is that just a week ago, I found out that I had a Full attic, and that there is access from my house to the next door, and I don't feel safe! I just came on this web site to ask for some advice, not to get into any problems with people just b/c they don't like me putting my sentences in all CAPS!!! THANK YOU..
