What's coming myWay ?

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? NC

OK I have a small home equity loan, owe very little and always have been fiscally conservative. Own my home, property cars and so forth. Worked since I've been thirteen and have very good credit in the 800 range.
My question I have a small adj. H/E loan over 15 years. It's tied to my checking account. I've been doing some small investing, this is the time with the market slow as it is.
If I contact the lender will they allow me to renegotiate a better int. rate and maybe turn it into a set rate. and if they do will it hurt my credit.
I here of all these people getting foreclosed on and the lenders and Government stepping in and wonder if they will help me also?
Or am I to responsible? I've never missed a payment on anything on purpose.

**A: I would look into refinancing andt getting a 15 or 30 year fixed rate.
