What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Washington. What are the steps to and requirements to own real property under adverse possession? The property has been squatted over 10 consecutive years the true property owner was not aware of the property and taxes were paid by a third party now decessed. Conditions between the owner and the squatter have become very strained with the owner destroying assess to the property and destroying squatters personal property. What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

Adverse possession is eligible after seven years, however, the squatter not being the one paying the taxes isn't the one eligible to bring the claim.
