My neighborhood is located outside the city of Kingston NY. Over the past 10 years our community has turned into a dangerous environment. The 2 family home next to our house has turned into a "halfway house" or " Assisted Living unit " that is sheltering about 20 welfare recipients and some are paroles. We have endured a gangster like disruption- walking by our house smoking weed, foul trashed fighting, loud cars late at night, music late at night, threats from the "gangster like" people that stay there, trespassing, gun threats, and NONE stop police lights in front of our house. Every time the police are called they park directly in front of our house..the lights alone can wake a person from the dead. We are hard working home owning tax payers...and no one will help! The police are aggravated with this house because there are no rules being applied. They drink, they party, they fight ..We live in the country area..beautiful mountains behind our house and a creek directly in front. We can't even sell our property! What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

Start attending your township board meetings and your county board meetings and push for regulation that requires any housing unit that houses more than 4 non related people in it to have a rooming house license, push for them to create ords that restrict conversion of single family houses into multi unit with out the conversion meeting current codes for multi unit after zoning variance hearings are completed and keep pushing for such ords until the people on those boards comply. If you have to call the police at times as well DO IT. Sooner or later with proper ords addressing this type of problem and action taken by local govt officials to enforce the new ords either the current owner will clean up his act and cease or you may get lucky and current owner will sell and be done with it. Either way with out the right ords your local police dept can only do the things it currently can.
