What is the name of your state? TX
My wife and i purchased our home 4 years ago, under my wifes maiden name. We have tried to change it, but seems to be to much of a hassle and to expensive, so it has been low on the priority list. Now to my question, we want to purchase a small additional piece of property from the man next door, who owns the property behind me. That being said, what is the easiest, and cheapest way to obtain this land. I have NO experience dealing with this and need some advice. I contacted a title company that said they could handle it, but that i needed to get an "earnest money contract" and fill it out. Contact my county commissioner (i live rural, not city) to make sure the land doesn't need to be platted, i think is what she said, and if it doesn't then proceed. If not that plating the land would cost 16000 dollars, but the purchase price doesn't warrant that kinda investment. I have someone to survey the land, but beyond having reached a verbal agreement with seller, and having a surveyor ready, i don't know what to do. The title fees are equivalent to purchase price, and with survey, exceeds that. Any help would be great.
