Good Evening Everyone,

I hope someone out there can offer much needed advice on this… My husband and I recently purchased a home in Piscataway, New Jersey. We have been living in our home for over a year without incident. Last month our neighbor who lives directly across the street from our home, came over and requested that my husband replace a recently installed garage light bulb, because the wattage from the bulb shined too brightly on her home. My husband explained to her that the previous owner had never installed a light bulb fixture, and being that the area in front our home is quite dark, he installed the correct wattage bulb to provide effective lighting and security during the night. As a compromise my husband also told the neighbor, that he would change the wattage of the bulb, however due to his work schedule he would need at least a week to do so. I would like to also add that the neighbor has double glass entrance doors which lead into her home, without any shading or curtains to shield outside views from the street and light.

Before the week had ended, the neighbor made a formal complaint to our township and in turn a violation officer visited our home to inspect the light. At the conclusion of the visit the violation officer informed us that our light was the correct wattage and in compliance with township regulations. The neighbor has since complained more than a dozen times since the initial complaint and now the violation officer has informed us, that although we are in compliance, the neighbor can obtain legal counsel and take us to court.

My question is can our neighbors take us to court for this even though we are in compliance? What are our rights, and is their a specific law or regulation written some where that we can refer to in the event this matter becomes escalated?

Any feedback and/or assistance is appreciated with this.

Thank You,

Compliant Neighbor

How hard is it to replace the fixture with aimed floodlights and aim them at the front of your house and drive and not at your neighbor's residence?

**A: well, as the saying goes, anyone can sue anybody for anything.

**A: try to mitigate the problem by installing a deflector, decrease the wattage, install a motion sensor etc. Contact a lighting specialist to help you. If you show that you took steps to resovle theproblem, if it goes to court you stand a better chance.
