What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? North Carolina

A dead limb from a large tree in my backyard fell onto my neighbor's yard and damaged their fence. What is my liability?

A dead limb from a large tree in my backyard fell onto my neighbor's yard and damaged their fence. What is my liability?
If you knew the limb was dead, and you did nothing about it, then you are liable for the damage and should be turning it in to your homeowners insurance.

If it had been an act of god (healthy limb hit by lightning or brought down by a tornado or hurricane) then you would not be liable and your neighbors should turn it in to their homeowners insurance.
