What is the name of your state? Virginia: In 1993 we put up a fence in good faith thinking we were on our land. There has been no dispute until today when they had a survey done for the sale of the house next door. We have maintained the fence, and improved the land in question (about 6 feet wide at the widest area, forming an arc.) What are our options?

Can we assume the fence is not on your property?
Better get the fenced moved. Or if you disagree with the survey, you can pay to have your own done.

Next time, use a survey instead of "good faith" to establish the fence placement. It's more accurate. Doing it right the first time is always cheaper in the long run.
