What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Illinois

What is the differnce between Line of Possesion, and Line of deed? On a Plat book it shows a straight line for Line of deed, and an angled line for line of possesion, for our property. What does that mean in legal responsiblity for both?

Even plat books can be wrong! Are you going to have a boundry survey done so you know exactly where your lot lines are ?

Possession vs. Deed

A line of possession ordinarily is an indicator that someone has constructed a barrier of some type, usually a fence between 2 parcels of ground. The fence is said to indicate what the person that erected the fence is to possess.

Sometimes the fence is placed inside the true line (deed line) and sometimes is constructed such that there is an encroachment on other land. The deed line is what is the original intent of the conveyance, and at times possession lines and deed lines are in conflict and at times the conflicts erupt in to boundary disputes.

The solution to solve the crisis is to engage a land surveyor to layout the deed lines and to explain, if any, ambiguities in the deed. If this is neglected a person runs the risk of surrendering title to property through the rules of adverse possession.
