What is the name of your state? Iowa

Our neighbors have started trying to do land improvments to their yard that has moved about 2 feet onto our land...what can we do if it continues.

I have heard that if we allowed it to continue that they could "claim" the land as theirs. Is this true?

Thank you,

Sonja W.

Sonja send them a letter via confirmed mail delivery telling them to please stop working on the 2 foot strip , tell them you believe it to be your property and want to get a survey done first to mark out the lot line. Suggest that if they wait till this survey is done that it will help prevent hard feelings in the future as well as legal battles should a future buyer go to remove the landscaping and create a larger mess. AND get a boundry survey done and inc driving into the ground pipe even if you cut it off later ,once its done even large rock can be set ontop of the cut off pipe.

Survey Planned

Thank you for your comment. We are planning to get the area re-surveyed and remarked. We are finding out that this could have cause a real issue had we not said something. Thank you for your input!

If you don't clear this up now, down the line they can claim that since they've been the one to maintain the property, it is now theirs. And the courts will more than likely side with them

Better to deal with it right now by having a survey done. I agree with the previous poster....send them your basic "cease and desist" letter before they do one single thing more to the property.
