Neighbors Sprinkler hitting my house and property

What is the name of your state? ILLINOIS

This sounds minor but this is really bothering me.

My next door neighbor places his sprinkler on the lot line. The sprinker not only waters my side yard but also it hits my house. Lots are very narrow so there is probably only 8ft betwen my house and the neighbors.

The water is entering my house and the sump pump goes on whenever he is watering. My basement is not flooding because I have interior drain tile in the basement. However, my side yard is soaking wet and like I said the sprinkler is hitting my house. I can't think this is very good for the house. to have all that water sitting there.

I've asked him to NOT water my property. He thinks its no big deal and its not his problem that the water is going into my basement.

What do you recommend I do. Is it illegal for him to water my property?

Thanks!

If he refuses to move the sprinkler after asking him nicely, the easiest solution is to go down a six pack and stand on the lot line facing your neighbor's house. Wait till he's coming home, and drain the lizard as he's walking up the driveway. Work on your technique and aim for his house. When he complains, tell him that "it's no big deal" and it's "not my problem".

Repeat daily until the sprinkler is moved.

Place a tree or something metal (or plastic) to block the water. Make sure the water drains back into his yard.

I would suggest taking a sheet of stainless steel and have a custom decal of Osama bin laden, Bush, Paris Hilton or whoever you personally don_t like and attach the decal on the metal. Now you need to make a way to send the water back once it hits the metal, so take some duct tape and ghetto weld on some rain gutter parts or something.

Now every day he can wake up and enjoy a horrible eye sore and a lake in his yard from the returned water. Make sure to make it look good on your side, I suggest a nice planter pot or rose bush.

Your other option is to pay for someone to come and adjust the sprinkler (with the approval of your neighbour). Other then that it would cost you more to fight it.

cool, thanks for your advice....my wife mentioned the same thing.

The thing about his sprinker is its one of those manual ones you just connect to the garden hose. He can easily move it. He's just being a prick about it.

If I catch it on my lawn today when I get home Im gonna cut the line and take the sprinkler.

I guess if the sprinkler is technicall sitting on my property I could cut it and take it right?

Either way I think Im gonna run steel edging along my property line so his water gets diverted.

As far as punching him in the face...I'd love too.

I think taking something that doesnt belong to you is still theft.

Yeah, right, and if my kid was playing in your front yard, you could have him too.

so basically what everyone is saying is someone can legally water your property and flood your basement and there is not a damn thing you can do about it.

Sounds typical of the legal system in the us.

If they are causing damage you can sue them, we are saying you cannot take physical action on your neighbour or his possesions.
