Please Help

Please help. We have not got on with our neighbours for over a year. It is a long story but they are very unpleasant and mistrustful of us (which I can honsetly say we have given them no cause.)
We are having some internal works done. At the same time we have gas works outside on our street.
One week ago our builder became locked out whilst looking for one of the men working on the gas mains torch which he thought he had left at my house whilst reconnecting our gas supply the previous evening.
Our builder is a good friend and is aware of our feud with next door. The gas man took it upon himself to climb over the neighbours fence and through into our garden and out to let our builder in. This was not at the bequest of our builder.
They claim to have a witness who saw our builder climbing over the gate. I know it was not him and it was the gas man who did this. What I want to know is how responsible for his (the gas mans) actions are we. We have only just found out about it and have no reason to disbelieve our builders story. I know he was helping our builder but like I say he did not ask or suggest that the gas man took these action? Can any one help me. I need my facts straight before I go and speak to the neighbours about it. Thanks

**A: yes, you do need your facts straight. You also need to follow posting instructions.
