Property line

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Texas
Our next door neighbor put a large ugly storage building just 1 foot off of our fence line today. Now when we go out our front door that is all we see. Isn't there a law that it has be so far from the boundary line?

No, though there may be some local ordinance. Contact a local attorney or your local zoning authority and ask.

Unhappy

Thank you, for your reply. Although it makes me sad, we spent a ton of money landscaping our very small yard, so that we may sit out and enjoy the birds, fountain and plants. Then our neighbors with 10 acres decide to put this large ugly metal storage building right beside us with a single window staring at us to park his helicopter in. Even a 6 foot privacy fence wouldn't even cover the window that is how close it is to us. We live in a small subdivision, resort area, which we are not really apart of but everyone around us is. They make up the rules and ordinances as they go along and as they deem fit and since we are not apart of the subdivision we have no say or even protected, such as draining water off the road, and someone elses yard, into our arena. Now my arena is now eroding away. Tomorrow we will check with the county zoning laws. We feel they did this to harrass us because they were upset that they didn't get a chance to buy this place before it was offered to us and also we asked them to tie up thier mix breed unaltered male dog up. He comes over and urinates all over everything and steals anything that has our small yorkie smell on. Earlier this year they tore an older fence down that divided our property we didn't say anything to them all though we were pretty upset about that since now their dog has free will to come over. But you can't argue with people like them. So we put a short fence up to keep our dogs in, and to give us a small yard to enjoy, then they put this ugly thing up.

Also read your title insurance commitment and back up docs. There are often not only local ordinances establishing set back requirements (which can often be reviewed on line on your city/town/village site), but subdivision restrictions that may apply as well.

Call town hall and ask if there are any setback requirements
