What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Georgia

We own a home on a pond. There are 3 other homes with pond front access. our property line runs through the pond, and we would like to know if neighbors have the right to cross over the property line via the pond.

Many states have laws concerning ownership of waterways and lakes/ponds. The size of the pond might have some significance in whether certain laws apply. Other considerations may be if the property line is posted, etc. Really not enough information to advise you.

In my state, all lakes over a certain acreage are owned by the state, up to the high water mark, regardless of where your property lines go. Also, in my state, if your land is not posted, people may cross it without any liability to the landowner.

Maybe someone with knowledge of Georgia law will answer, otherwise, consult a local land-use lawyer.

and in some states you own the land, but not the water! They can use a boat to travel all over the pond, they just can't set foot on any land you own. And it doesn't matter if the land is the shore or under water.

Like other respondents have indicated, the rights of landowners in relation to a pond is going to depend on the size and other hydrological characteristics. If this pond is feed by or feeds a natural stream or creek, then more than likely it would be considered waters of the State which means that as long as it's not classified as a non-navigable waterway, properties owners have the right to access the pond from their property (and travel across any navigable parts). As previously stated, they cannot however access land on your property.
