squatter rights?

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? :New York. I have lived in my house for 17 years. When i bought it, it had a U shaped driveway with a shrub island. Today people came to my house telling me that i have encrouched on their property by putting a driveway and the island on their land that they pay taxes on. I havent changed a thing. I bought it like this. Do i have any rights. They are threatening to put a road through what i thought was my land.
