Ebay Seller/Scammer

I giggle as I write this because I realized what it sounds like but here goes...

I live in Arizona and I have a friend (that's the funny part) who is so far down on his luck financially that he is considering trying to pull a scam on ebay by selling something that he doesn't have and then just not sending anything.

I have tried to talk him out of it because it's almost guaranteed he will get caught but I would like to be able to tell him what the consequences are as maybe this will at least get him thinking.
