What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Maryland
I tried to buy a puppy on craigslist yes stupid I know however halfway during the deal the guy took our money and said that he wants to keep the dog and will return the money however every time I tried to get him to return the money he had issues with the ways we wanted this guy to send our money back also he had "surgery" however I have address if this is even his address, but also his "name" and bank number. I just want my money back and have nothing to do with this man however he prolongs this and when I said we would have problems if he does not return the money he complains we are threatening him. Is there anything I can do?

Well we sent it via bank using a check and got a receipt for it then he just said I know this might sound crazy but we're keeping the dog cause its mom passed away.

Also it happened a week ago it that too little of a time or too much?

File in Small Claims Court. And you have every right to file as soon as the contract was broken by the other party.

Non Legal advice:

Go to a local pet shelter to get a pup. ;)

If the seller of the puppy is located in your area of Maryland, a small claims action is a possibility.

Before filing a legal action against the seller, however, you might want to advise the seller by certified letter that you are considering taking legal action against him if the money is not returned immediately.

Demand letters that threaten legal action are generally more effective (intimidating) if they come from a lawyer, because the recipient is then aware you have already sought legal assistance over the matter, but seeking the assistance of a lawyer would not be practical for you if the money involved in the puppy purchase is small.

How much did you pay for the dog?

I really like Blue Meanie's suggestion to purchase your next dog from a shelter.

The minute the sale didnt go through I went to the shelter to get a puppy however this guy has sent me a long message that I'm harassing him and that I should suffer long for it but he'd send the money back today yet has not done it. And that I didn't show any effort to get the puppy yet he had threaten me that he'd give the pup to someone else to get our money now he comes back and says we never wanted the puppy only to scam him, but no he went back on his word and said that he wanted to keep it. And is blaming me for him keeping it and wanting a refund.

Don't let your emotions get into it or worry about his threats. Send the letter and give a reasonable time to respond with specifically-described action. If it does not happen by that date, initiate a small claims lawsuit.

(By the way, while puppies are cute, older dogs are great too. It all depends on your goals.)

I am happy that you adopted a puppy from a shelter, yah. I agree with tranquility that your best course of action now is to keep your correspondence and communications with the dog seller very business-like, regardless of how the seller presents himself. This will serve you well should the matter wind up in court. I hope the refund is being sent, however, as the seller promised, and that you receive it Monday. It would be nice if this can all end for you without any legal action needed.

While I understand everyone who is looking to purchase a dog has different wants and needs, and shelters tend to have more mixed breeds than purebreds and some people are looking only for the traits inherent in a particular breed, I personally cannot think of a better way to spend money than to spend it on a rescue animal (through adoption or through donations to the shelters that house the rescue animals).

And I agree with tranquility that older dogs are great to adopt. We have always adopted animals from the Humane Society. Two of our dogs were older, one being two years old at the time of adoption and one was guessed to be 10 years old. Although it is definitely fun to raise a dog from puppyhood to doghood, our older dogs are/were friendly and fit into our family easily (and they were already trained, which was a big plus :)).

Purebreed tend to be highstrung. IMO there is nothing like a nice mutt. They tend to get the best from their DNA.

Little bit of a thread-jack: one of our local rescues just took in 2 dogs who were pregnant. They now have 17(!!!) puppies that will soon be up for adoption. 9 lab mix; 8 shar pei mix. I want them all. My DH is not amused at what he calls my "puppy porn" obsession. (I keep bringing up the pics just to look at them.) :D

Long way of saying that puppies are available through rescues as well.

I adopted my female Dane as a 7 month old puppy from a local rescue so i'm proof that rescues can have BOTH purebreds AND puppies :D. My male Dane also came from a rescue as an 18 month old which, by Dane standards, is still technically a puppy. I went in to look at an adult they had on site but this guy just looked at me the right way out of the corner of my eye and the next thing I knew he was in my car (let me tell you how thrilled my hubs was at THAT ;))

Tell me your secret, RRevak; my hubs says that 2 is enough. I'm campaigning for Just. One. More. He doesn't believe I can stop at three.
