sold item never picked up

I sold an antique to a guy who said he would come back in a week to pick it up - 8 months later after trying to call him and he doesn't answer - mailbox full - can't get a hold of him - figured he was dead...I sell the piece to someone else. the day after it sells he shows up at my door. Am responsible to refund?
