    Back copies of paystubs

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Colorado I need some paystub information from 2003 for a criminal legal case that does not involve the owners of the business at all. I do not work for this employer at this time. This is a very small private practice office. Is the lady that does payroll allowed to give me the timeperiods requested without having the permission of the owner to do so or do I need to get the owner's permission first? She has the timesheets printed up for me but when she called the owner, the owner said she could not give them to me as it was not legally allowed and I have to call her and explain to her why I want them. Thank you.

Have you considered, if it will help, getting transcripts from the IRS instead?

This is not a matter addressed by law. The law neither prohibits the release of such information nor requires it. It is entirely up to the owner whether to permit it or not.

Next time, instead of posting your question in a forum dedicated to forum problems and which SPECIFICALLY says not to post legal questions, you might consider posting it in the employment law forums, where questions about paystubs actually belong.
