lmao!! i thnk i know what you are talking about, it's a small blue box to the left of the link to the thread itself. if you click on it, it takes you to the first unread post in that thread.

those are search cloud tags. Hover over them and some search terms will show up. If you search one of those terms, you should get that thread as one of the responses. I do not know who or how the tags are generated though.
