I live in the State of Hawaii. A year ago, I had to contest my brother's petition to be the conservator of my mother's finances because he would not give me cash to buy her food. Even though I am the one who has been taking care of her for the last ten years. Because I was going to school and taking care of her, my finances were low so she was in turn helping me. When the court issue came up, he used that situation against me in the hearing. He won the case because of this and because my so-called siblings were all against me. Now, he is refusing to replace the roof for my mother's house. The roofer said that it's really bad and that the whole roof needs to be replaced. All that's needed is a bad wind storm and the roof will fly offi--not to mention if the roof fails. He also said he would give to us at cost because he is the nephew of my brother's wife. Is there a law that places someone in jail if he knowingly places someone at risk? What is the penalty? He is also placing me at risk by refusing to sign my form for temporary food stamps. Are these incidents a case of "abuse of household members?" Any pertinent information would be helpful.
