Both ideas have merit. The head-banging emoticon may have a higher priority because Antigone keeps banging her head against the monitor every time an "idjit" comes on the board.

How about fixing the URL mechanism? I'd rather have that than any of the smilies. We're pretty good at stomping on the inappropriate (asian shoe dealer, etc...) posts. Low chance for abuse I think.

They did that to keep the spammers from having an expressway to their crap.

I think we ought to have an "Unca Jeffy" icon. It would be a wall-banging emoticon that says "No!" with each whack.

As I said, since the various people (like yourself) who stomp on the spam within minutes of them being posted, it's sort of moot. It makes people actually reading CONTENT in this group very difficult. First, the posts are illegible unless you turn off the "PARSE LINKS" on every post (no default setting) which leaves the ugly tags there. Second, even when you do you have to cut and paste it all.

Do you think people who encounter spam are going to actually click those links in the idiot posts.

Somebody's clicking those links.... Otherwise, why waste time/energy?

That's actually a very good point and one easily fixed at no harm to the anti-spam efforts. (It's also a giant PITA when you edit a post as it "resets" itself even if you clicked it off the first time).

Why not just default the entire forum to have that box unchecked normally?

Oh, many good ideas on smilies, but the head-banging one is at the top of my list. Count me in as an "aye".
