Questions about posting rules and responses

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? NV

I looked and couldn't find any place that stated the rules about posting questions and giving responses. I am a member of different forums and most have a place that tells you the rules of posting and responding.

I know about etiquette (not being rude, slamming people or using foul language),posting in the correct place, but I do have the following questions:

What is the difference between member, junior member and senior member? (I know I might be answering the question, but is it the # of posts you make?)

I know it's OK to post a serious question, but what qualifications do you need to respond? I am not questioning any of the responses I have gotten. (I am not a lawyer, but I did reply to a question about getting medical records since I had just gone through it and thought I would share my experience.) I will not post my ideas of some of the replies given, unless they are directed to me.

I just want to be sure that I follow the rules of the forum and do the right thing.

Oh yeah, one last thing. How come when I post in a topic and then try to respond I always have to log in again. Am I doing something wrong?

You asked about the designations of Jr. member, member and Sr. member ~ it all has to do with post count. under 50 Jr. member, 50 to 999 member and over 1000 Sr. member. It is strictly post count, but you don't get to stick around very long if your advice is way off base, so the trolls very rarely get to over 1k posts.

Yes. The number of posts denotes member / senior member. I think the magic number is 1,000 posts to be a senior member. I think it takes 100 posts to get to member status. In reality - the title doesn't mean anything. Credibility comes from the posts themselves.

Not everyone is an attorney. Some have areas of expertise. Some post just to hear themselves yakking or to run up their counts. And we know who they are.

I don't know why you're having to log in again. My login stays active until I log out of the forum. You'll have to wait for a techy to come along for that answer.

I'm not sure about that... I thought she said each and every time she tried to post she has to log on again. She didn't say anything about getting in and getting out of the forum. But, for you.... I'll ask.

Momcobb... is your complaint about moving between posts or coming back to the forum after you've left? If the latter, there is a little box that says "remember me". Click it.

i could be wrong, but i think you have to click on the box next to your log in name where it says remember me. or enable your cookies.

i'm not a techie, but i think those worked last time i got stuck like that.

The login problem is when I go to post a reply or start a new thread and go back and forth between the topics. I will remember to check that little box. And I haven't logged off all day, except once when I couldn't even log in. Maybe it logs you off if you are inactive for awhile?

And my cookies (hmmmm..cookies) are enabled.

Also, I am a computer geek, even met my husband on line, he is a software engineer and we have a network of 12 computers, 4 printers and a scanner. One problem might be is that I run Linux and on some sites I have problems because of that.

How do you do multiple quotes?

By the way, what is a "troll"?

I do multiple quotes two ways:
If I'm quoting a single post and I want to break it into pieces and give a separate answer for each section, I select "quote" and when the reply box pops up I copy the entire quote. Then I delete the sections I don't need and write an answer. Then I drop a few lines and copy the quote and, once again, delete the sections I don't need.

If I'm copying from different posts, I can either open two windows and capture two quotes, or copy in the second post and make it a quote (it's tricky - I still struggle). Some others may have different answers.

Linux... I'll have to ask my Linux-knowledge spouse if he knows the answer. It may be the problem.

In the lower right next to the "Quote" function is a button with a quote sign and a plus sign. If you click that, it will turn red. Click them on multiple posts and then click "Quote" and it will pre-populate your text box with those posts. You'll have to cut/paste to take out the parts you don't want.
