About Last Night

Yesterday we experienced 2 issues for a short time that affected the forum.

The first was a corrupted file update that caused some issues with the Auto Accident forum. That has been repaired.

The second was a rather interesting spam bot attack. For a short time we disabled a few features on the site (like bold, underline, etc) so we could study what these folks were up to with less chance of losing the whole site.

Once we understood the situation we took the appropriate action to remove the spam bots and block them from further access. We then had to re-boot the forum server and run some quick database maintenance functions.

We have just re-activated the temporarily disabled functions.

Thanks to the users who initially reported the problems. This is your community and it is great that you help us police it and we apologize to anyone who was inconvenienced.

Thank you for staying on top of things; many forums these days are falling to disrepair.

Woody, does this mean you've found a way to stop most of the spam?

When I read Woody's heading (About Last Night) all I could think about was some poor fool re-living Demi Moore/Rob Lowe's life.

I must admit it was a little weird to log on in the wee hours and not see a whole lot of spam in the Accidents section. Nice, but weird....

Woody, it would be nice if some of us could have some extra spam-defeating powers. Hint... hint....

I think the bold, quote, etc features are still disabled in the Auto Accidents forum. Other forums seem ok

I noticed that the bold, italics, and underlines were gone for a while, and there was a point at which I couldn't get on the site. I thought it was me. Now I know why! Thanks!

On the other hand, it's nice when you see all that spam, and are able to sit back and let someone else do something about it.

Thanks Woody.
