Not getting ads

I haven't gotten any ads since the very first time they were up. I got two in a row and have had nothing since then. Nothing is hitting my popup blocker.

Maybe it's the good, clean life I'm living. Time to sit on the porch and have a cold one.

I am not sure I agree. Although your wording is more correct, most users off the street are not that legally astute and may need a more familiar though less accurate name.

And what's with the posting behavior changes? tags like quotes are no longer displaying properly, I cannot edit my last post to fix the quote tags and all of the rich text editing features are missing from the reply message box.

[quote=msiron;1979837]There are only a few reason they are not allowing outside sites (want to keep the audience here) or do not want the site you are taken to, to know the redirect was from here.

Both of these things can be easily by circumvented, by..., 1. set vb to open a link in a new window (I do this) and 2. use a script which MASKS the URL redirect. Thus any site click on has no idea it was a link here at freeadvice.

Also as I stated spammers can be dealt with. Right now I fell like I'm being spammed on this site by all the unnecessary huge ads. There are ways to do things covertly and non intrusively. Also consider persons using smaller screen resolutions (so there is no left to right scroll

I have not seen one add, maybe it is my firewall running. I suggest *Web Root* for everyone. You can program this in up to three computers, for those of us with multipal lap tops.

I have been amazed with it.

I've been here long enough to remember why active hyperlinks are no longer allowed. And yes, it is because of spammers. If you had seen the pictures that were not just linked, but posted, you'd understand. I have never seen anything so disgusting and I'm not exactly an innocent lamb.

The pop ads are going to drive me to another site.

I can no longer get to the complete "Free Advice" list of forums after being in one of the lower folders unless I click on my shortcut. For instance, if I'm in "Debt Collections" I can only go up one folder to "Bankruptcy and Consumer Credit" and not continue going up one folder to the "Free Advice" master folder.

This has been corrected.
Example:
http://forum.freeadvice.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1
FreeAdvice Legal Forum > ACCIDENT AND INJURY LAW

You should be able to click the "FreeAdvice Legal Forum" link to return to the forum home page.

Thanks - FreeAdvie Team

Thanks again, i like this very much, works great on my blackberry.
two things for consideration:
1) I dont see where i can veiw "new posts" or "todays posts" i have to go into each forum individually. however that is much easier to do now.
2) I can't seem to log in or to be able to post replies. but hey i really dont need to be replying from my BB anyway.

Thanks - we've put this in to our feature request list.

These new banner ads that are 728px width and the first page that you must click 'SKIP AD' are way too intrusive. Large banners should be no more that 640px width. There are many more issues but whoever the admin or webmaster is needs to put allot of time in tweaking this site using products from vbulletin.org Members with over so many posts should be exempt from ads. I operate 2 large vbulletins and would not be caught doing what is going on here now. There are rewrite links, small category banners, ads only to members under a certain ct of posts or no posts, and many more plugins which can be applied. Also spammers can be put to rest if you invest some time or hire a webmaster that will.

The full page 'SKIP AD' advertisement will disappear today. We are adding several updates to the forums regarding the advertisements. Please bear with us while we test several alternatives to find the ones that work best.

Thanks for fixing the forum index link!

To whoever is viewing the site on Blackberry, check out Opera Mini (not mobile). It's the browser I use to read and post on my windows smartphone and I can access all the features that the desktop site has.

You're welcome and thank you. I was going to suggest putting the Living Wills in parenthesis after Advance Health Care Directives because of what SomeRandomGuy posted.

Thanks, I'll ask OG for permission to use some of her material when I ready - probably in a couple of months.

WebRoot is another thing we both have in common. Yep, must be sisters.

I just wanted to mention--in case nobody else noticed--that banner ads for porn sites are getting through. The two I saw were only on-screen while I was zapping porn spam, and I know the ad fields at the top of the screen usually correspond to the thread subject, so it might not be really all that intrusive. But one of them was pretty "adult" and that kind of ad certainly doesn't fit in here.

I have no idea how web site ads work, what kind of "conduit" is involved, or if there is any control over the content, but I thought I might as well bring it to someone's attention.

Make a recycle bin forum and hide it from forum viewers. Have mods send all old posts there. Then you wont have people responding to 4 yr old posts and you wont lose post count.
