legal responsibility for son's 16 year old friend on vacation

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Tennessee
I would like to know what legal responsibility my husband and I would have for a 16 year old friend of my son, if we take her on vacation. Also, what documents would we need for the trip from her single mother. It is in the US.What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?
