| My impounded jeep What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? North carolina.
In 2007 a couple days prior to me deploying to iraq my vehicle was impounded. Due to the time at which it was impounded i was forced to let it stay there for at least 7 months, which forced it into an "abandoned" vehicle status. Then when i returned i never really bothered to look for the vehicle because the price to get it out would've been more than i spent on the vehicle total. Yesterday at work i got bored and decided it may be fun to track down this vehicle which was a 1976 jeep. After getting my VIN number and calling NCDOT i found that my jeep is still registered to me and that whoever took it would've had to have done title work, either to salvage or to sell it, which was never done because it was still in my name. So i go about locating the company to ask if they still have it, and they told me that the recently got rid of it because of how long they had it, and then they changed their story and told me that they never had it at all and they absolutely did not take it, which is contrary to camp lejeune pmo records where i got their information from. My questions are kinda broad. I want to know if there is any cap on impound fee's, or if because of my depolyment status i can get those fee's dropped significantly if i can find the vehicle. I'd also like to know if this company can be found guilty of some sort of title fraud for not doing the proper title work, and what kind of fines they could face. I'd like to know if this is a completely lost cause and if it went to court if i would probably lose. I'm assuming that because of the circumstance i don't really have a strong leg to stand on, but now that i've found my jeep i'd kind of like to get it back since i did infact buy it. |
