New posts

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Massachusetts

Because my job is one where there is a lot of hurry up and wait, I pop in and out during the work day. What I have found is that sometimes a post will show as new for three or four different accesses, whereas other posts will not show as new at all, ever. I have the "remember me" button clicked so that I'm not frequently logging in, just coming in. Anyone have any ideas why this might be?

Are you closing your browser between accesses? If not, then it's likely your cookies haven't yet expired, so the site thinks you're still at the site, even if you have browsed away.

Whenever you get on the site, you should look to the right of the screen near the top. It'll say "Welcome, cbg", and under it will show the date and time of your last visit. Start watching that and see if it's telling you what makes sense.

I have to click refresh every time I come back to the board. I'm not sure if that will solve your problem.

Tried both. Closing the browser window didn't work; neither did refreshing. I still had a post I'd already read showing as new.

Some of this may be me... but, I'm not doing this in Employment.

If a spammer posts inside a thread, it still shows the spammer's name even after the post has been reported. I add a short note, submit, and go back and delete it. This eliminates the spammer's "footprint" and reverts the entire thread back to the last "real" post. I don't know if the thread shows as "new unread" or if it goes back to the last "real" status.

I'm doing a lot of this in the top forum sections because that seems to be where dumb and dumber post. Keeping their names out of the limelight *seems* to help reduce the amount of spammers.

I'm all in favor of reducing spam, but there doesn't appear to be any connection what I'm talking about. Thanks for trying, though!

A suggestion: send an email to *M*om outlining the problem and ask her to forward it to one of the techies. I've done that in the past.

I think I have some of it figured out.

If someone adds something to a thread while I am reading it, it shows there being an unread post in the forum category, even though the thread itself shows as having been read. But I'm still having instances where a thread I have read and which has had nothing new added to it, continues to show as having unread posts for as many as four reviews, despite refreshes or closed browser windows.

It's not a serious problem and I don't need anyone to take any trouble about it. I just found it curious (and slightly annoying).

I've got the same little issue.... Using Firefox on eMac & PC. Annoying, but not to the point of no return.
