retirement funds

WyomingWhat is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? My husband had a retirement fund from when he worked and lived in Wyoming. At that time he was married to someone else. He moved to IL and divorced his first wife. He apparently listed her as his beneficiary to his retirement fund. He passed away last year and I have been trying to get this money since I am his current wife. They are telling me that since he left a beneficiary they receive the money it does not matter that they were divorced. Is ther anyway to change this? I know he would not want his ex-wife receiving these funds, if anything they should go to his daughter from that marriage.
