Spammers

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? California

Is there a way to change the system so that we don't have to wait 30 between the reporting of posts? Sometimes these spammers post several times in a thread and we have to wait to remove the posts.

**A: also, why can't the threads be deleted in it's entirely. Many times, the body of the thread is deleted but the thread topic remains as an active thread.

It used to be 60 seconds, until we complained about that and they decreased it to 30. The delay is part of the same process as the other delays which, ironically, are meant to deflect spammers that could otherwise auto-fire a whole slew of posts at the board.

The thread stays visible only temporarily. Once admin has a chance to review the report, the whole thread disappears.

The 30 seconds is just killing me when I'm chasing a multi-posting spambot. One of the last idiots repeated the spam five times in one thread. I guess he thought the replies would not be reported.

Most of you have seen my "Bumped to get spam off the main page. I'll come back and delete this later" postings to override the spam from getting front page press. If the spam is in an existing thread and already reported, I add a "bump" and then delete it to override the spambot.

I know M can't be on the board 24/7. This is where all of us should compliment her on doing a fantastic job of keeping the board clean. It would be nice if they would give a few of us limited admin privildges to completely delete spam as soon as we see it.

W, can I have special senior privileges if admin goes along with your idea?????? I promise to use my power for good!

We had this conversation on this board when they did the last set of updates. According to admin, 30 seconds was the best they could do. Charlotte is correct, it used to be 60 seconds, until we complained.

**A: that's correct. M can only be on the boards 23 hours a day.

To me Country, you are most respected and a senior whether your post count reflects it or not

I only just now noticed who I was responding to, there. I can't believe I had the audacity to presume to school someone with over 74 THOUSAND posts, who has been here for 560 years.

So, yeah, I'm guessing you knew that, HG, and you meant why can't they be deleted immediately instead of waiting for admin. To which my revised answer is: I dunno.

Oh, and Country Living is right: much applause for those behind the scenes.
