My 19yr old stepson was arrested (along w/two other people) for 1st degree reckless endangerment and 2nd degree criminal mischief. The charge was a direct result of shooting w/a BB gun at moving vehicles w/occupants, parked cars and business. This was spread out over a 3 wk period (not a momentary lapse in judgement). The damages incurred are in excess of $25,000. He has been out of school since spring, living on his own & working full time. However, my husband has still been providing child support. My question: Can we be held liable for restitution of damages & subject to law suites? We are in NY.

Not likely. He is an adult and can be made responsible for any fines and restitution. My question is why is he still paying support? Unless he is a full time student and works less than 20 hours a week, support ends at 18. Of course, the laws of your state may differ.

Why is he still paying support? Beats me! However, I'm guessing after this incident he will be sure to take care of it! Thanks for your input.
