What is the name of your state? California

Is it a crime for someone to borrow a gun registered in someone else's name?

The registered owner loaned the gun so borrower could protect self from the attacker who assaulted/battered him. Person is fearful attacker may return to his apartment uninvited to do him further harm.

Should person purchase and register for own gun instead? How long will it take? Do they accelerate process of obtaining a gun under these circumstances?

FYI, person was intimate with attacker's wife. Attacker had a private investigator follow and take photos for proof of adultery.

Attacker hid in bushes outside of person's apartment. When person came out of apartment, attacker threw a rock and beat person. Attacker ran away when neighbor shouted she was calling police. Wife was in person's apartment and quickly left b/4 police arrived.

Should person issue a restraining order, press assault and battery charges and sue attacker for medical bills, anguish, bodily harm, and punitve damages?

I think that would be wiser, than shooting attacker with someone else's gun.
