Exclamation Car stolen cops want to give me fleeing and evading

What is the name of your state? Wisconsin

I had left my car at one of my friends houses one night and went out riding in my other friends car. We drove around for a bit then went to his house where we watched a movie and by that time I decided to sleep there and to go to work straight from there in the morning because he was tired and didnt want to drive me back to my car right then. Well at 7:00 in the morning I go to get my car and it is not sitting where I parked it. At this time I remembered that I had left the keys on my seat UNLOCKED. (Sometimes when I run in to check if my friend is home I leave my keys on the seat because I am coming right back) First off I understand that it was a totally boneheaded thing and I don't expect to put blame on anyone else for my car being stolen. At this point I called home to check if maybe one of my parents picked up my car from in fornt of his house. My mom tells me when I call that the police stopped over at my house at 1:30AM in the morning and said that they had gone on a high speed chase with my car and that whoever was driving wrecked my car in aditch and took off running. They never caught this person. They wanted to talk to me because they said they think it was me and that I might get charged with felony fleeing and evading. Well I have a filed a stolen vehicle report with the city where I live and where my car was parked but they found my car in a different city. Now I have to talk to the police there. What are the chances that they will convict me if they decide to charge me with felony F & E as I only have one alibi for that night (my friends house I stayed at). I am very nervous about this and don't want to go to jail for something I didnt do. PLEASE HELP!!!

    Cool

Do me a favor. Relax and take a deep breath. It is a good thing that you were staying over your friend's home because you at least have an alibi. The police doesn't know that yet.

I hope that police will catch whoever did to your car.

    Regards, Combat

    Exclamation

Ok I talked to the police. They keep insisting that I was driving and they know that it was me, but yet they said they didn't catch or see the person that bailed out of my car and ran. So they hav no idea who they are looking for and they are trying to pin it on me. I filled out a statement saying where I was that night and tried cooperating to the fullest, but now he wants me to come in on Monday and take a Voice Stress Analyzer test?? I have never taken any kind of lie detector test before and I think I would be very nervous and they would try to trick me into admitting something I didn't do. What are my rights in this? I don't have to take this test do I? So far I have cooperated to the fullest but this thing just makes me scared because they are trying to blame everything on me. Well I didn't think that I would have to do this for this incident but I am seriously contemplating getting a lawyer if they are going to try to charge me with crimes associated with my car being stolen!!! But firsthand I would just like to know can I refuse any further questioning and tests without getting an obstructing charge or something of that nature. I want to cooperate to help catch who did it but I gave them all the information I know. Its there job to find out who did it and it seems like they are trying to blame me so I try to find out who did it to save my butt!!!

Just to cover yourself, you should consult an attorney.
When in doubt, ALWAYS consult an attorney.

You don't have to cooperate with the police. They have to prove the without your help. The friends can probably all testify in Court that you were with them at the time of the incident. Talk to a lawyer, NOW!
