What is the name of your state? Indiana
I sincerely made a mistake in figuring my checkcbook. I wrote a little store in the town I live in a 20.48 check. It bounced, If I recieved notice of it, I can not recall. The prosecuter did call, and I said I would be there to pick it up, I did not, I know it was stupid, I procrastinated and forgot. I got a letter from the sherriff, My court date is Dec. 8, I called and they said it is already on docet nothing I can do, I went and paid it, plus the 20.00 fine. My question is. I can not stand the word deception, I want to plead not guilty to that. The check is paid the fine is paid. I am guilty of procrastination, forgetfullness, all and all dumb on my part, but decieving....no, I do not think so. I am fighting for my good name, they got there money. I am 40 years old, this is the one and only time, I have done this, any suggestions? Thank you in advance.

*** The law that you were (presumably) charged with (I.C. § 35-43-5-5) is legally termed as "Check deception". A copy of the statute can be found at:
http://www.co.marshall.in.us/pdf/deceptionstatute.pdf

And based on your post, you appear to be guilty of the statute and therefore 'deception'. You can certainly call it anything you like, but the LEGAL term in your state is 'check deception'.
The process can be found at:
