What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Idaho
Jones' were wonderful people, had served as missionaries, and were very productive in church work. They had three sons: Jim, John and Joe (All names are fictitious.)
About 15 years ago a very complicated event occurred:
John, the slowest of the boys (borderline retardation), was charged with child molestation. It is the one and only nick upon his record. He had got together with this very savvy 17 year old boy, and they were found out. John, because he was older and over the age of 18, was given a sentence of 15 years. David (the 17 year old boy) got off scott free. John served part of his sentence and the rest he has been on probation. They have to live away from other people. John can’t be near children. So Joe, who lives in California, made the down payment on a house in the sticks, but the mother has to make the payments, which she can ill afford. (Joe would like to sell the house, since it creates a financial burden for him.)
John has a perfect record with his captors. He goes to all the meetings and fills out all the papers that the probation department can throw at him. Why can’t they let him go? Largely it’s because of Helen, David’s mother, who will see to it that John is punished to the last limit of the law.
The mother is being punished along with John; they live on her retirement, but if she doesn’t support John, what would he do? Where will he go? The mother cries, she is so lonely and discouraged. She is very elderly, walks with a walker, and she most definitely does not belong in that situation. She has lived a good life and deserves gentle golden years.
To further complicate the matter, I have a friend who just told me this story this morning. It seems that David told her daughter, Eloise, that his mother molested him and his sister, and she is willing to testify to this in court.
