I'm actually not the accused. "She" is my friend. I'm in Maine,
trying to help her with her case because she had to go back to school.
As far as I know, this may be the first time she's stolen. Personally
I think it had something to do with her current emotional/mental state.
In the past month, she has experienced the death of a friend, financial
difficulties, and serious family and relationship problems. Her
schoolwork has suffered as well and I'm sure that's another major stressor.
She also has a history of depression, but I think she's on meds and in
therapy.
Anyway, I'm sorry I'm making this so convoluted. It's a difficult
situation with her being in New York because she has to handle all her
pre-hearing arrangements over the phone or via e-mail (i.e. talking to a
lawyer or clerk), and I'm just trying to do all I can.
