Florida. I recently walked off my job. My ex-employer is now threatening to have me arrested because they say I tampered with data and stole company files. All I did was delete my personal word docs from my computer that I had created for my own personal use. Was this illegal?

I have every reason to believe that my ex-boss did something after I left in retaliation. How can it be proved that I was not the one that did anything? Is there a time limit on how long they have before they can charge me with something? It's already been almost a month.

No, but at the same time you can't blame your employer. How do they know what the files were?

things are hardly ever completely deleted from a hard drive. the drive can be examined and they will know exactly what you deleted (unless you used one of those shredder programs that does a complete delete)

Go to this site and read up on what is left on a computer after you though you deleted it.

Your computer keeps hidden records of what you delte, so your boss will have to show the dates and times files where delted or destroyed and that YOU were employed at the time.

Anyone can copy files to a disk and walk otu with them, and even if you delte files you can still recover them unless you use a program like above...

If you really want to see how much stuff is left in your computer here are 2 shareware programs you should download and always keep on ANY computer.....especially at work!
