I am a witness in a case where a person was arrested for a fraudulent transaction at her place of employment (retail). The accused person admitted the transaction (which involved missing cash) and is claiming she performed it under the direction of her general manager to whom she gave the cash. After the employee was arrested, they became aware that the general manager had been under investigation for fraud at the GM's former place of employment. The defense attorney requested through the prosecutor's office that the head of the formr employers security department be questioned about the validity of the information received by the accused. The arresting detective was selected to contact the former employer. The detective reported the security person said there were no investigations for fraud conducted and the general manager had left the company on good standing.

The defense attorney, after receiving the report then deposed the detective who, under oath, stated the security person denied any investigations of their former general manager and that they'd left the company in good standing (same as on the report he filed).

Yesterday the security person from the former employer was deposed by the defense attorney. During the deposition he indicated that yes, he had spoken with the detective. He went on to say he had told the detective the former general manager was in deed the subject of an internal investigation for multiple fraudulent transactions.

How will this impact the case? What will hapen to the detective who lied under oath?
