What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? California
What kind of legal action van be taken against someone that has illegally gained access to an email account, deleted information that was going to be used in court against them, sent emails to themselves pretending to be the person the email account belonged to, and then contacted people pretending to be the person the email account belong to. I would think this would fall under identity theft as well as stealing? How serious a crime is this? I know that proof of this can be obtained by finding out the IPN that every computer has. What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

There would be multiple felonies and misdemeanors as well as a number of torts involved. Without all the facts, no one can tell, but if all this can be proven then the party is going to get hammered hard.
