Embezzlement in Ohio I was working for a private employer and used resources to obtain merchandise and consumables for personal use. I was terminated from employment for other reasons. My employer was not a non-profit organization or bank related. The total amount over the course of two years is under $20,000. I've paid back around $6,000 of that amount without their knowledge. They may or may not be aware that any of this has happened. I am remorseful and ready to take full responsibility for my actions. The only prior record I have is a few bad checks passed and that was over ten years ago. I want to make restitution and this has been my intention during the entire course of my actions, only I never could come up with the money to pay it back. My employer never had a problem in the past when I purchased things for my own use as long as I paid for them. I got carried away with it and thought I'd have money coming in, but it never happened. I have things up for sale now to try to make further restitution.
I guess my question would be, what am I looking at for a sentence? I haven't hired an attorney just yet because I don't know what the outcome will be or what the next step is since I haven't been charged yet. Am I looking at jail time and if so, how long? What could my fines possibly be? Is this a felony or a misdemeanor? What can I do now to show my remorse and to show good faith? I don't know what to do and my conscious is getting the better of me. I want to make good on this, if it's at all possible. |
