I live in AZ but may have comitted an Aggravated harassment in the second degree in NY which is a class A misdemeanor. § 240.30 of the NY Statutes. It has yet to be determined if "I" did infact commit the offence. It is a matter of tracing an mail order back through the source to the sender which involves two seperate Internet companies.

I was wondering if I did do this, would/could I be arrested in AZ and extradited for trial in NY or would they just try me in absence. How does this work? Also would they even bother because it is a misdemeanor?

It depends on how badly they want you... for a misdemeanor, they may or may not want to spend the money to extradite you... New York City or somewhere in New York State?

They cannot try you in absense..

Did you do the crime?
Remember internet crimes can be federal offenses if the charge you under federal law, you could be tried in AZ.

Well I guess we'll find out

If ordering via the internet an anoymouse gift that was mailed which could be anoying to to the recipient an "Internet crime" then I could be in deep stuff. I'm figuring since this sort of thing was a one time deal it should result in a restraining order. Now violate that and my hole gets deeper.

The thing is that whenever ordering anything off the internet they capture your IP address and can tell who you are or at least who the IP address is assigned to... for instance, if you have dial up, and the Service provider is AOL... they can trace it there... if you have cable... it's traced through there...etc... not to mention your credit card/bank card info...
