i live in illinois. i paid a lawyer for sevices for another person. a total of $3000.00.that person did not follow thru with all the legalities. in essence the lawyer did not use up all the money paid down for his services.
after much to do the lawyer cut a check for the balance which was about $1000.00.
the problem is this the lawyer cut the check in my name and the other persons

the check was picked up by this other person and was signed by the said person. signing both names to the back of the check. which i did not sign

i have contacted the local police force. basically all i got was the run around. the police stated that the forgery was so good that a hand writing specialist would have troble discerining between signatures?????? like how would he know? he stated that before he more or less would do his job he would contact the states attorney to see if he would prosecute the case,at this time of posting still no word. wondering since when do police wait to find out if its ok to do their job?
questions.

1. is this forgery on the part of said person?
2. do i have a case against the lawyer? for cutting the check in some one elses name beings i paid him? i have cancelled checks with my signature. to prove i paid lawyer fees
3. can i go after the bank for cashing the check?
4. or would better off filing criminal charges against said person with the local police dept?
